What to do with your post-Christmas rubbish in Penrith

Now that the Christmas festivities are behind us it’s time to start clearing away everything that’s been left behind, from packaging and wrapping paper, to food scraps and trees.

If all of the rubbish leftover from Christmas is a little overwhelming then you may want to make use of one of the additional waste services on offer from Penrith Council this year.

General garbage

Extra bin collections are being offered to Penrith residents from Friday 25 December 2020 to Thursday 7 January 2021 (including public holidays) to assist in disposing of excess holiday waste.

All you need to do is place all three of your bins at the kerbside the evening before your normal collection day.

Residents are advised to leave bins out until they are emptied. Truck drivers will be starting early and finishing late, and collections may run early in the morning and late into the night.

Recycling

If you have a large amount of recycling that won’t fit in your yellow-lidded bin then you may want to bring it to council’s recycling drop-off point.

This will be located at Jamison Park between 3pm and 6pm on weekdays from Monday 21 December to Thursday 31 December 2020, excluding public holidays.

Items that can be recycled at the drop-off point include wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, glass bottles and jars, milk and juice cartons, paper, plastic bottles and containers, and steel and aluminium cans

Christmas trees

Those who have a real Christmas tree they need to dispose of can bring it along to Jamison Park between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 9 January where it will be mulched for free.

Any real tree will be accepted, no matter the size or age, just make sure that decorations have been taken off it first.

For those looking to dispose of an artificial tree you can book a bulky waste collection at The Waste Spot or you could try breaking it down and placing it in your red-lidded bin.
