Those looking to lodge a development application (DA) to build or renovate in outer western Sydney can now do so from the comfort of their own home, with the process now being available online through the NSW Planning Portal.
Both Blacktown and Penrith Councils, along with selected councils across Greater Sydney and major regional centres in NSW, will now only be accepting DAs online through the new streamlined service, which will cut red tape and make the approval process faster.
That means that councils will no longer be accepting emailed or posted post consent certificates.
While for some the new e-planning system may take a little getting used to, it will allow people to submit applications online anywhere and at anytime, which should help reduce delays.
It will also help make the approval process more transparent with customers able to login to check the status of their application, and neighbours able to see in real time what developments have been proposed where they live.
In a day and age where so many services are delivered online, it makes sense that the DA process goes digital too.
Where to lodge your applications:
You can register and lodge your planning applications at the NSW Planning Portal website at – https://www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/onlineDA.
Understandably, not everyone is digitally savvy though so if you need assistance using the online service, refer to the quick reference guides at https://www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/support/how-guides, or you can contact the ePlanning support team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you require any additional support or assistance it is recommended that you get in contact directly with your local council.
