Penrith’s Tench Reserve is set to get a whole lot better, thanks to a state government program aimed at creating better access to high-quality open space areas across Great Sydney. 

The NSW Government Parks for People program is investing $10 million into the reserve, with plans to improve the open space and create more opportunities for the community to connect with nature and enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle. 

Consultation on what needs to be improved at Tench Reserve has already gotten underway, with the community originally asked to share their thoughts and ideas back in late 2020. 

Some of these ideas included improving walking and cycling paths, increasing shade to help keep cool, the addition of nature-themed play spaces and improving park amenities, as well as creating better connections throughout the reserve.

These ideas helped shape the now completed draft concept plan, which shows new access points and facilities for the reserve, as well as a new walkway along the river’s edge.

A new waterfront promenade and a riverfront plaza have also been included in the design, and would allow space for people to gather by the river’s edge, as well as be a great spot to hold local events.

With the draft concept plan having now been released the community are being invited to look over it and provide feedback.

Feedback can be provided via a virtual ideas wall and online survey before 31 January 2021. 

The Parks for People program is aiming to begin construction of the project in early 2021, with completion by late 2021.
